SKINS









SeconSecond Skin is a crochet piece made out of string with the intention of mapping of my torso, containing my every curve, indent and birth mark and created as a representation of my body with the intention to proclaim it as my own. This piece embodies my anxiety and the feelings of being trapped and weighed down. I wanted to use a delicate material to portray this feeling of being in a constant state of tension. 
With the wide crochet stich, every little circle looks like a cell, that together creates an entirely new second layer of skin. Simultaneously, the texture also reminds me of a net, of being trapped in my own body and unable to breathe. I wanted to explore the dichotomy that exists between strength and vulnerability.

I think a characteristic of the majority of my works is that I represent very dark, sad, intense feelings and anxieties into light, detailed and beautiful objects.
